Social Entrepreneurship

This research fields focuses on the impact of microfinance institutions (MFIs) on empowering female entrepreneurs and success of their businesses in Tanzania. Within this study the female clients of MFIs and non-clients from non-program areas are compared to examine the impact of microfinance services on individual female and their businesses. Women are generally not named on land titles or even given the chance to inherit land in most part of Tanzania; it is difficult for them to access formal source of credits which are mostly tied to the provision of titled land as collateral. As MFIs continue to offer sustainable access to microfinance services to female entrepreneurs in terms of credit for start-up and working capital, we expect that female clients of MFIs would be more empowered at their household and community, and more successful in their business than female non-clients.
