"Silicon Photonics for Optical Data Communication"

Our Idea

The massive increase of global data traffic poses an essential challenge for our society. In order to further increase the capacities of data networks, fast and energy efficient optical fiber solutions are required that need to be extremely cost effective at the same time.

We believe that this vision can be realized through silicon photonics enabling the fabrication of photonic and electric circuits on a single chip in a mass production scale CMOS fab. We develop highly integrated optical transmitter and receiver modules (transceivers) building on our expertise from six years R&D in silicon photonics. It covers the design of photonic building blocks as well as their efficient integration into photonic integrated circuits for low cost and low power optical transceivers.
